I decided here to make a user of the Icelandic Police website (logreglan.is). I used a 6-sided die to randomize gender (2-3 female, 4-5 male, 1 or 6 other) and age (1= literate child, 6= retired).
The die results gave me a woman of early middle age. A scenario I projected is looking for information for concerned parents: she is afraid her teenaged son has gotten mixed up in a bad crowd and is experimenting with drugs, and doesn’t know what to do about it. She decides to go to the police website to finer resources. She is a native speaker of Icelandic, because the police website only has information in Icelandic.
Name: Guðrún
Age: 41
Tech savvy: known to be an Excel genius at her workplace
Quickly finding logreglan.is, the first thing Guðrún sees is a notification that the police find important (SEKTIR HÆKKA, with a picture of motorcycle cops using a radar gun to catch speeding motorists). But she sees something promising at the top of the page: “FORVARNIR OG FRÆÐSLA”. Clicking on the text, a drop-down menu offers several options, none of which seem to match her concern: Ofbeldi (domestic and sexual violence), Innbrot og þjófnaður (break-ins and thievery), Internet, Traffic Oath (“I will…”), Fine amounts, and general Traffic.Finding nothing matching her interests, Guðrún examines the drop-down menus Lögreglan, Aðstoð and Útgáfa, and finds nothing. She uses the Search window and enters “Eiturlyf” and finds two articles: “Skaðsemi LSD” and “Viðvörun Interpol”. Frustrated, she decided to look elsewhere.
